20th May 2006: Why 'Wicker Tune'?
In the 'Little bits of Goldfrapp' documentary that appears on the Supernature DVD, there is a scene showing a work-in-progress chart, which lists the songs destined for the album. Most of these appear on the finished product, but at the bottom there is one called ‘Wicker Tune’. It is ticked - presumably to indicate its completion.
It may be that this song was subsequently re-named, and became one of those we are familiar with. I like to think, however, that it might be an as-yet unheard piece, which was excluded because it did not fit-in with the other songs. Perhaps ‘Wicker Tune’ will appear on the next album.
And what might the next album sound like? There may be some clues... the acoustic session on Jo Whiley's 'Live Lounge' show featured a wonderful cover of ‘Boys will be boys’ - in a kind of 'oompah-ska' style, as Alison put it. And then there is the haunting Fields remix of ‘Time out from the World’, reminiscent of the music from the film 'The Wicker Man'. But then again... maybe it will be a totally new direction.
1st May 2006
Original 'Wicker Tune' website first on-line.
About the Site
I set-up this website with the aim of providing a UK-based focal point for those with an interest in Goldfrapp.
Much of the inspiration came from members of the
Goldfrapp Message Board
(GMB), and I am especially grateful to them for their contributions.
What most impresses me about Goldfrapp is how they have experimented with such a wide variety of styles, and yet produced music of such consistently high quality. I would like to thank Alison and Will for providing us with such wonderful musical imagery, and I hope they continue to enthral and inspire us for many years to come.
